When I feel a cold coming on, I tend to reach for some herbs that can stave it off.  But, if I really am sick, what then?  Some remedies are tonics, and have a tendency to build and make you stronger, but when you are already weak, you want to purge what’s making you sick.
Therefore, it’s considered not helpful to take “tonic” remedies, like mushrooms or astragalus, when already sick.

You can find fritillaria syrup at places that sell Chinese medicine and remedies. It’s wonderful for coughs, and usually contains honey—no refined sugars or fake sugars!
